Archive Zero
[The Brief]
Archive Zero preserves at-risk digital art and design from the early internet (1994-2010). As a nonprofit, they had no brand presence and their digital platform looked like a spreadsheet. They needed an identity that honored internet history while being contemporary enough to attract young donors and researchers.
[The Strategy]
A physical and digital archive that treats code as artifact. Every archived piece generates a unique visual "fingerprint" from its source code (HTML, CSS, Flash bytecode). These fingerprints become the brand's core visual language. We built a generative exhibition system where archived sites are displayed as abstract data sculptures.
[The Outcome]
Archive Zero's donor base grew 340% in the first year. The Tokyo flagship exhibition attracted 23K visitors in 3 months. The "code fingerprint" system became a new metadata standard adopted by 6 international digital preservation institutions. The project sparked renewed academic interest in net.art, leading to 14 university partnerships.
